Which Way To Go Will Get You Somewhere

Rhode Island Sky
"It's not the package but what's inside" is my mantra for the day. I keep repeating that over and over in my mind as I look around at my surroundings. We have begun the audition process of college entrance requirements, for what may be the next four to five years of my son's life. It's a journey together, the three of us, (musketeers), our family.

We had an early start and headed out to the University of Rhode Island with our granola bars in case we needed sustenance. Our bellies were considered, but the question over what was to be, couldn't be answered just yet.

I liken the college application process to two other anticipatory times in life - house hunting, and the long wait of pregnancy.

Both times, every thought imaginable runs through your mind. But it's the wait and the due diligence that gives you the feeling you're doing everything you're supposed to in order to make the right decisions and to ensure the health of the baby.

As a consumer, it's a comparison game you play when purchasing anything. What something costs is usually the biggest factor. But how do you measure which path to take when it comes to education?

Deciding which college to attend ultimately becomes the road map to your child's life. It's nice to imagine the learning that will take place in any of the selected schools applied for.

I'm reminded of the Dr. Seuss poem, "Oh the Places you'll Go" where the story ends on a happy note, "Will you succeed? Yes, you will indeed. (98 3/4% guaranteed.)"

We're eager to see how it all turns out. Which school will it be? The one thing I know is watching Connor's growth before, during and after this next phase of his life will be something to behold!
